This engine utilizes an L-bracket that makes the oil filter point toward the spark plug side of the engine. There is no room for an engine with a straight oil filter without the L-bracket, since it would hit the frame. You will have to use an engine without an oil filter. The only difference will be that you will have to change the oil every 25 hours instead of every 50 hours. The unit has an electric clutch and is gravity feed on the gas flow. If you purchase an engine with less than a 9 amp alternator you will need to use the alternator and regulator of the old engine.
